About Hampshire Clock Works

Traditional horological skills, precision engineering and modern workshop technology — dedicated to the repair and conservation of mechanical clocks.

Clockmaking in Twyford for Over 25 Years

The clock workshop in Twyford, near Winchester, has been established for more than 25 years. Originally trading as Baldwin Clocks, the business was subsequently taken over by Scott Jeffery, who has now been running it for over 15 years.

Today, Hampshire Clock Works specialises in the repair, servicing and restoration of mechanical clocks, from much-loved family clocks to antique and historically interesting pieces.

Meet Scott Jeffery FBHI

Scott’s route into horology began with precision engineering. Before specialising in clocks, he studied Aerospace Engineering and later completed a BSc (Hons) in Motorsport Technology.

His horological education was undertaken through the British Horological Institute, alongside practical training under experienced clockmaker Chris Baldwin MBHI.

Scott is now a Fellow of the British Horological Institute (FBHI) and, alongside his work at Hampshire Clock Works, teaches BHI courses and serves as an examiner for the Institute.

Engineering Background

BTEC Aerospace Engineering and BSc (Hons) Motorsport Technology, providing a strong foundation in mechanical engineering and precision manufacture.

A Properly Equipped Horological Workshop

Clock restoration frequently involves much more than replacing readily available parts. Components may be worn, damaged, obsolete or entirely unavailable.

Our Twyford workshop is equipped for precision horological repair and component manufacture, allowing many parts to be repaired or made in-house rather than relying solely on replacement components.

Watchmaker’s Lathe

An 8mm watchmaker’s lathe for fine hand turning and delicate horological work.

Pultra Cabinet Lathe

A 10mm Pultra precision lathe used for a wide range of component manufacture and repair.

Gear Cutting & Milling

A BCA jig borer with CNC dividing capability for accurate gear cutting, milling and precision machining.

Inspection & Measurement

Shadowgraph equipment allows components and cutter profiles to be inspected and measured accurately.

Modern Repair Techniques

Modern processes including microwelding can be used where appropriate to conserve worn or damaged original components.

Modern Manufacture

CNC engraving and 3D printing complement traditional workshop methods when they offer a useful engineering solution.

What We Do

Our work is centred on mechanical clocks and ranges from routine servicing to extensive restoration.

✓

Clock Repair

Diagnosis and repair of mechanical faults, wear and previous unsuccessful repairs.

✓

Servicing & Overhaul

Thorough dismantling, cleaning, inspection, correction of wear, lubrication, reassembly and testing.

✓

Mechanical Restoration

Conservation-led restoration of worn or damaged mechanisms, retaining original material wherever practical.

✓

Aesthetic Restoration

Optional restoration of hands, dials, glass and cases, undertaken in-house or with trusted specialist craftspeople where appropriate.

Clocks Are More Than Mechanisms

Many of the clocks brought to us have been in a family for generations. Others are interesting pieces of engineering or horological history in their own right.

Our aim is therefore not simply to make a clock run. We approach each repair with respect for the original mechanism, its history and the importance it may have to its owner.
